Whatever Works, Right?

Emily seems to be attached to the boob. Well, maybe she's just a slow learner. It seems just like yesterday when getting her to nurse was a struggle. She would be lazy, fall asleep, etc. Now that she is eating solids and not nursing during the day, she needs a new source of fluids, but has been slow to learn how to use her sippy cups. She chews on them, moving her jaw like she does when she nurses.

We have had a few breakthroughs, though. Several of them definitely would put me in the running for negligent parent of the year - drinking out of her bath toys? shot glasses? giving her juice just so that she ingests any sort of fluid? Well, whatever works, right?

You'll be relieved to know that as of this weekend Emily has become much better at drinking from a glass than she is at drinking from her sippy cup or the tub toy. However, there has been a bit of a regression since we returned from our Grey Cup weekend at the farm. You see, we don't have any 2-oz shot glasses. She's better at them than the 1-oz ones!!

In addition to the advancements in drinking abilities, Emily has started feeding herself. We usually need to give her her own fork or spoon in order to feed her. She loves using her fork, but the contents of the spoon usually get dumped. She also loves using her toothbrush. The public health nurse told us that we needed to wipe Emily's gums with a damp cloth to promote healthy tooth development. Well, Emily wasn't too interested in that. She does, however, love letting us brush her two teeth, and then takes on the job herself.

And lastly, Wee Turtle still is not walking on her own. She took a few steps on her own to Daddy when he got home from work. However, when left to stand on her own she usually drops to the ground without too much hesitation.

Enjoy the assortment of pics - it is probably the first time you will see Emily's Halloween costume on here. Sorry about that.
