For those of you who have been following my classes, NP 101 included all of my tips for raising Emily. NP 201 is a collection of my tips for parenting Sophie.
Last week we dyed noodles using rubbing alcohol and Wilton gel dyes. We dried the noodles, and strung them into necklaces. Here's Sophie demonstrating how it is done.
First, you set each colour of bead onto a different plate. Next you cut a piece of elastic cord, tape one end to a plate (so the beads don't fall off) and tie the loose end to a...
big, fat needle. That's right, you put your biggest needle in the hands of your toddler. Then you leave the room. Just kidding, you don't leave the room. It is probably wise to supervise. Of course, I wouldn't trust just any toddler with a needle, but Sophie has demonstrated that she is a very careful toddler. (In fact, I would argue that Emily puts Legos in her mouth more frequently than Sophie.)
Finally, you thread several noodles onto your needle, then push them down the elastic. Repeat until you are satisfied with the length of the noodle necklace. Cut the elastic from the needle and remove the tape from the other end. Tie the loose ends together, ensuring that the noodles come together at the knot. I like to stretch the elastic a little so that they are not any spaces on the elastic without noodles.
